A permanent homeless shelter

In 2022, the city allocated $5 million to the construction of the Homeless Services Center and is expected to be completed for the 2024-2025 thermal season.

Rocktown High School

In 2023, Harrisonburg broke ground on a new public high school to accommodate the growing population of 2,300+ high school students in the city.

ARPA Funding

23 city-wide projects were allocated $23.8 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds.

  • $400,000 to mental health services

  • $5 million to build a permanent homeless shelter

  • $2 million to affordable housing

  • $2.2 million to public parks and playgrounds

  • $846,000 to improving road infrastructure

  • $5 million to a new fire station
